I am Adam Guerin, an independent SEO and AEO consultant in Cairns. I work with small and medium businesses across Far North Queensland and regional Australia, I take one client per industry, and I do the work myself.
Do I still need SEO if AI is answering everything?
Yes, and the reason is fairly boring. AI answers get assembled from pages that already rank, and from businesses whose details are consistent everywhere Google looks1. The work that gets you cited in an AI answer is mostly the work that got you ranking in the first place.
What has changed is how you measure it, and how much of the hype is worth paying for2. Most of the AI optimisation tactics being sold right now are ordinary SEO with a new label on it. The parts that are genuinely new are worth doing, and there are fewer of them than the pitch decks suggest3.
